Charm Your Fella With Out of This World Cooking    by Wendy Scott

“Mom, you should taste my girlfriend’s Roast Beef, no offense to you, but it’s simply the best one I’ve ever tasted.” My mother-in-law told me my husband said that when we were still dating. And to me it felt more like a confirmation that he really loved my cooking. I’ve heard him say it a lot of times but to hear it from his mother? It’s a confirmation that I got him smitten with my cooking, among other things.

I hope it doesn’t sound a prejudice, but speaking for myself, it’s hard to be a good wife when you barely know how to satisfy your husband’s sense of taste. Well, alright, satisfying him in bed is another part of the story, it’s a given. But there are areas outside the bedroom where you can continue being the girl of his dreams, so to speak, especially when he has the need to please a growling stomach.

Actually, you need not Cook Like some expert chef, though if you can afford it, taking culinary short courses is a plus. Practically, all it takes are a dash of imagination, a pinch of creativity and a tweak of resourcefulness and you’re on your way to enthralling his taste buds. Here’s what’s really important – knowing what your guy’s favorite foods, and health wise, what he should and should not be eating. Cooking, after all is not really a talent. It’s more of a skill that anyone willing can acquire and improve gradually. It’s more than just a daily domestic chore; it’s a labor of love. And for a woman who aims to gratify her man in every way, with cooking, it’s not that hard to be your man’s deity.

So pick up that cookbook and wear that apron to get into that cooking groove!

Lamento Borincano is a wonderful collection of early recordings of Puerto Rican music that cover an astonishingly wide range of styles, from sophisticated danzas, which have a strong European influence, to the earthier sound of the seis jibaro and plena, which were created by farm workers and laborers, to the bolero, son, and guaracha, which were imports from Cuba. All these tracks were recorded i…
